26 MarPregnancy Calendar – Week 39

It’s been a long haul, but you’re almost there. The good news is that you probably won’t grow much bigger! You may experience one or two false alarms, when you think you’re going into labor. Don’t worry, it happens to most people! Better to wake Dad in the middle of the night for nothing, than to leave it too long when it really happens. The practice contractions can sometimes be painful now, and you think you’re on your way. Your healthcare provider will advise you what to look for in deciding when to head for the hospital, or call in the midwife.

The baby is ready for birth. His growth slows down now, and may stop altogether. He is perfect, down to the last hair and fingernail! His lungs are well able to breathe; his digestive system is ready. He is just waiting for the day when you can hold him in your arms and cuddle him.

Have you planned how you will let people know when you are going into labor, and when the baby arrives? You don’t want to hang about making lots of phone calls when the day comes, so arrange to phone one person who can let everyone else know.
